Richard Shearer, Jr. was one of Philip Barbour High School’s early standout student-athletes and school leaders during his four years as a Colt. Graduating in 1968, Rick was well known throughout the region and state for his prowess on the track, where he was a three-year letterman, and especially in representing PB on the basketball court.
Serving as team captain on the hardwood for the Blue and White, he earned a number of accolades which included selection to the All-Big Ten Conference First Team and then being named Most Valuable Player in the Central WV All-Star Team.
An excellent student, Rick was a two-year member of the PBHS Chapter of National Honor Society, held office in the Hi-Y organization and was a member of the Key Club. His leadership skills were evidenced by service as class president for the Class of ’68 throughout his sophomore and junior years, and then being selected as the Student Body President during his senior year.
Rick Shearer continued his athletic career at Alderson Broaddus College into the early 1970’s where he served as team captain of the Battler basketball squad for two seasons. During his stint at AB, he was named to the All-WVIAC team as well.
Following his graduation, Mr. Shearer launched a highly successful business career, becoming Founder and Chairman of the Industrial Minerals Association. He is currently the President and CEO of Emerge Energy Services in Texas (NYSE: EMES). Rick and his family have continued to be strong supporters of his Barbour County alma maters throughout the past four decades.
