Lisa A. Withers completed her academic career at the top of Philip Barbour High School’s Class of 1989, ranking first among 231 graduates that year. Featuring a perfect 4.0 Grade Point Average and exemplary test scores, Lisa was active throughout high school, including membership in the National Honor Society, the Academic Superbowl Team and the Foreign Language Club.
Beyond the classroom, Lisa was a leader in Colt music programs and an award-winning vocalist and instrumentalist at PB. Known for her prowess at the piano and on the French horn, she served as accompanist for the West Virginia All-State Choir in 1988 and played as a member of the 1989 All-State Band. Upon graduation, Ms. Withers earned her Master of Music Degree from the University of Michigan, before taking her love of music to West Virginia University, where she was awarded a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Morgantown.
She turned from performance to instructor and mentorship and soon became an Associate Professor of Music at Emory and Henry College in Virginia. During her tenure and E&H, Dr. Withers rose to the positions of Chair of the Division of Visual and Performing Arts, Chair of the Music Department and Director of the McGlothlin Center for the Arts. In a professional career highlight, from 2009-2011, Lisa was selected by her peers as President of the Virginia Music Teachers Association.
