While Josh Yeager was a very good student and school citizen during his days at Philip Barbour High School, he will always be remembered for his talent and outstanding contributions to the Colt basketball program. The 1999 graduate became and remains the all-time leading scorer in PB hardwood history, both in a single season and a career during which he poured in 1789 points in just three seasons. Contributing everything from long three-pointers to slam dunks, Josh helped lead the Colts to their first ever appearance in the West Virginia State Tournament in the Class AAA division in 1999.
In addition to being a member of the school’s 1000 point club, Josh earned numerous accolades during his seasons at PBHS. He was a three-time selection to the West Virginia All-State squad in 1997, 1998 and 1999. An all-conference pick throughout his career, he was named the Big Ten Player of the Year in both 1998 and 1999. During his senior season, Mr. Yeager was named to the Honorable Mention list for the prestigious McDonald’s All-American team and was tapped as the Morgantown Touchdown Club’s Player of the Year.
Josh spent his off-seasons honing a different set of skills as a member of the successful Colt golf squads of the late 90’s. Still an avid golfer today, he earned all-conference recognition on the links and became the Big Ten champion while at Philip Barbour.
Upon graduation, Josh Yeager joined the West Virginia University program as a full scholarship athlete to continue his basketball career at the high Division 1 level. Early on, the 6’6” forward was dubbed “The Belington Bomber” by Mountaineer sportscaster, Tony Caridi, for his ability to stroke three-pointers and the local ties that made him a favorite at the Coliseum. As a four-year letterman at WVU from 1999 to 2003, Josh scored 623 career points and played in 108 games during his days with the Gold and Blue. Josh is now a Commercial Loan Officer in a career that has spanned more than a decade in the banking industry. He and his wife Katie presently live in Fairmont with their young daughter, Natalie Vivian.
