Jane Daugherty completed her high school career in Barbour County as a member of the inaugural Class of 1964. An outstanding student, she graduated in the top 3 percent of her class academically and was selected for membership in the school’s first chapter of the National Honor Society. Active in many co-curricular organizations, Jane served in leadership roles as the president of PB’s FHA as well as the French Club. Jane also was active in Tri-Hi-Y and her local 4-H Club, while maintaining excellent attendance throughout high school.
Known for her outstanding musicianship, Jane was a leader in the Colt band, serving as its student conductor. She is perhaps best remembered as the composer of the Philip Barbour High School Alma Mater. As a teen, she was named Barbour County’s Fair Queen Barbara XXVII.
Beyond high school, Jane Daugherty’s long and distinguished career in education took her to the state of Maryland where, prior to retirement, she served for many years as a music teacher, choral director and school principal. Her award-winning choirs performed throughout her tenure at such legendary concert arenas as the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Center, as well as international venues in Canada and Europe.
