Elizabeth Sweet completed her career at Philip Barbour High School as a top academic member of the Class of 2000, representing her 192 classmates as featured speaker at the Commencement Exercises in May of that year. During her four years at PB, she was active in numerous extra-curricular activities as well, including four years of service in the Student Council and four years of membership in the Key Club, where she served as Historian.
Named to PB’s Chapter of the National Honor Society in 1998, Elizabeth represented her school at West Virginia Girls State following her junior year. She was then elected Senior Class President by her peers in 1999.
Ms. Sweet was a member of the Lady Colt track program and was a four-year, blue chip member of the Philip Barbour’s award-winning cheerleading squad, which was honored three times with the WV Secondary Schools Athletic Commission’s Academic Achievement Award. In addition, she was named as the WVSSAC state winner in the individual female athlete category for 1999-2000.
Following graduation, Elizabeth attended Grove City College in Pennsylvania, where she earned a B.S. degree in Molecular Biology in 2004. She continued her education at West Virginia University’s School of Medicine where she was selected for the WVU Family Medicine Rural Scholars program. She received her M.D. credentials from the school in 2009 and became board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. Elizabeth is currently serving our veterans as the only full-time M.D. at the VA clinic located in Gallipolis, Ohio, and resides in Hurricane, WV, with her husband, Matthew, and son, Ben.
