In 1991, Cecil T. Holbert completed his four years at Philip Barbour High School at the top of his class of 186 and served as its valedictorian during Commencement. His academic prowess was reflected in exemplary test scores on the ACT and CTBS instruments. Cecil was a two-year member of PB’s National Honor Society, where he served as secretary. He also earned recognition representing his school at the Regional Math Field Day, was named the PB Boy of the Month and was active in the Key Club and the Foreign Language Club.
After graduating from Philip Barbour, Cecil continued his education at Alderson-Broaddus College where he received his Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Chemistry in 1995. From there, he went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine credentials at the West Virginia University School of Medicine in 1999. He was named as an AB Outstanding Young Alumnus by the institution in 2004.
For the past two decades Dr. Holbert has held a variety of responsible positions in the medical and health fields. He became Chief Resident in 2002 for United Health Center with residency at Family Medicine in Barbour County. Cecil then served for a dozen years as the Chief of Staff at Broaddus Hospital from 2004-2016. During this period he was also the Medical Director at Myers Clinic from 2009 to 2016. He has served as a board member on the Barbour County Community Foundation as well.
Presently, Dr. Holbert serves as the Medical Director for the Barbour County EMS and has provided invaluable leadership during the recent pandemic months as the local health officer for the Barbour County Health Department. As they raise their three children today, Cecil and his wife, Kelly, continue to serve the health needs of Barbour County.
