Angela Murphy Osborne graduated with honors at Philip Barbour High School, ranking academically among the top ten percent of the Class of 1987. She was listed on the PB Honor Roll in each of the sixteen grading periods from 1983-87. Active in many facets of school life during her four years, she served as President of Tri-Hi-Y and participated in the PB Band, Key Club, BETA Club, Drama Club, Backgammon Club and Foreign Language Club. After school hours, she volunteered for UNICEF and spent countless hours on the basketball court and the cindered track.
Angie earned blue chip trophies in both girls’ basketball and track-and-field, having lettered for four and three years respectively. She earned numerous post-season awards at the conference and state levels in basketball over the years and served as the Lady Colts’ team captain during her senior season. In track, she was a member of Philip Barbour’s 4x8 track team which reached the state finals in 1986.
Following commencement at PB, Ms. Murphy received a scholarship to continue her basketball career at Lock Haven (PA) University from 1987-91. Helping lead her squad to one of its best seasons ever in 1990-91, she won an MVP award at the NCAA Division 11 Final Eight Championships. Academically, Angela graduated with honors with a B.S. degree with a specialization in mentally/physically handicapped education from Lock Haven in 1991, achieving Dean’s List status each year. Her path in education next led to Nova Southeastern (FL) University, where she earned a Master of Education degree in 1997 and then a doctorate in Educational Leadership in 1999.
Angela Murphy Osborne then immersed herself in an education career in Orange County Public Schools, the ninth largest district in the nation. Beginning as a classroom teacher, she later took on the responsibilities of dean, assistant principal and finally principal at several elementary schools in the LEA. She has been a member of more than a dozen professional organizations over the years and has earned numerous awards and recognitions over the past three decades.
Some of the most notable highlights include: Orange County Public School Principal of the Year in both 2012 and 2015; and Principal of the Year for the State of Florida in 2015, for which she was honored as a National Distinguished Principal of the Year in ceremonies at Washington, D.C. In 2016 she was elected to the first of two terms as the National Association of Elementary School Principals Florida State Representative.
Ms. Murphy Osborne has continued her tradition of service that began in Barbour County as a student at PBHS. Her list of recent community service projects includes working with the local homeless, collecting needed items for underprivileged children and serving on numerous charitable boards. She currently works with the Smile for a Lifetime Foundation in Orlando, which funds braces for needy students, and has a leadership role in the Quest Outreach Program, which provides essential supplies and Christmas gifts to families in need.
